About Don

I am a mature gay psychotherapist with over 10 years of professional experience and a lifetime of personal involvement in the LGBTQI community. I have a deep understanding of issues such as coming out, gender expression and identity, gender dysphoria, HIV and health, personal and professional relationships, self-esteem, and acceptance. Whereas most of these challenges extend beyond the LGBTQI community, my practice is open to anyone facing similar concerns.

Unlike many therapists who act as a “blank wall” my approach is to be interactive and highly involved in the healing process. I am a highly empathetic, skilled therapist who believes in the power of change when therapist and client act together as one within a relationship that is truly supportive. I am an active listener and active participant in all sessions and, when appropriate, will share my own viewpoints and life experience to help my clients gain necessary perspective to move forward

A trauma-informed psychotherapist, I have extensive experience working with members of the LGBTQ and other marginalized populations. My preference is to not pathologize behavior nor to reduce a client to a diagnosis. Behavior is merely a reflection of of one’s experience growing up in their unique enviironment and a diagnosis is merely encourage and help clients to access, express, and fully process feelings surrounding their familial and personal relationships, sexual identity, HIV status, and personal trauma history.

To be heard and listened to. To believe and to trust in the power of change. Through my own professional and personal experiences I have been successful in providing a therapeutic relationship that has led to increased self awareness, acceptance and a more fulfilling life.

My work has been primarily with individuals who have been marginalized or felt marginalized due to personal trauma history, sexual expression and/or identity, financial disparity, drug use and addiction, and/or unsatisfying relationships—whether personal or professional. Their goal is to be made whole by eliminating the cycle of negative self-talk and problem behaviors.
