With the cultural shift in sexual acceptance (and self acceptance) the LGBTQ community is more out than ever before—and that means a larger aging community. Fact is, a study by SAGE estimates that there are nearly 3 million LGBTQ people over 55 in the USA. (And that number will double in 20 years!)
We are much less likely to parent
LGBT people are more likely to be single and living alone. As we age, we are more likely to be caregivers for our friends
LGBT people are more likely to have health problems like HIV, depression and substance abuse
Nearly one-third of LGBT adults age 65 and older live at or below the federal poverty level
LGBT people face high levels of discrimination in assisted living and affordable housing facilities
The “Aging In the LGBTQ Community” group will explore these and other issues affecting gay men 40+ : What does it mean to be gay and older? To date? To be alone? HIV+? Serodiscordant?
Start Date: March 2019
Session Cost: $80 - $120
